En el discurso sobre el estado de la Unión, Bush manifestó la intención de reducir un 20% el consumo de combustibles fósiles en los próximos 10 años.
Su justificación (mediática) es el compromiso firme por atajar el cambio climático y cuidar el medio ambiente.
Pero no nos dejemos impresionar por el discurso, condicionado por motivaciones electoralistas y por las directrices de unos asesores que intentan recuperar la credibilidad del Presidente.Los recientes sondeos de opinión castigan a Bush, que sólo cuenta con un índice de aprobación del 34% de los votantes. Algo que no ocurría desde Watergate o la guerra de Corea.
Además, recordemos que Bush llegó a la Presidencia empujado por las petroleras, y que es también el Presidente que sacó a EE.UU. (país responsable del 25% de las emisiones mundiales de carbono) del protocolo de Kioto.
¿Se ha hecho ecologista de repente?
Bush necesita aproximarse a los Demócratas, tras perder el Congreso en las últimas elecciones legislativas. Además, teniendo en cuenta el varapalo de Irak, se encuentra al frente de un país que debe evitar la excesiva dependencia del petróleo importado.

Qué malo es saber que te has equivocado y, sobre todo, que los demás estén de acuerdo contigo.
Lo que más me gusta de lo que está pasando en torno al "Presidente del Mundo" es que ahora que comienza a hundirse (curioso que haya "flotado" tanto tiempo) todos sus amigos de partido comienzan a empujarle hacia el fondo... eso es amor...compañerismo.. y aprovechar la oportunidad para ser THE NEXT WORLD OWNER.

Tonight, we will hear the President make his State of the Union address, but what we won’t hear is the devastating state of human rights in our nation. The US has abandoned human rights in the name of a "war on terror" and our nation and the world is now paying a steep and painful price. We cannot let this stand and ask you to
please urge Congress to adopt our agenda for reversing America's course on human rights.
CLOSE GUANTANAMO: an icon for human rights violations, the U.S. has detained people as young as 13 years old at Guantanamo Bay, subjecting them to torture or other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, all without charge, trial or end. Guantanamo must be closed and anyone remaining there must either be tried or freed.
BAN TORTURE OR OTHER CRUEL, INHUMAN OR DEGRADING TREATMENT: torture or other “alternative interrogation techniques” won't make us safer, won't get us good intelligence and only exacerbates the deteriorating respect for human rights around the world. We cannot tolerate ambiguity in our law when it comes to torture and any action that amounts to torture or ill-treatment must be clearly outlawed.
CLOSE SECRET PRISONS: the U.S. has shamefully defended its practice of "disappearing" suspects into secret CIA prisons. These prisons must be closed, or, at a minimum, anyone in U.S. custody must be registered and visited by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
RESTORE THE WRIT OF HABEAS CORPUS: a clear founding cornerstone of our nation is the right for anyone to challenge their detention before an independent court. The recently passed Military Commissions Act strips this right from many people currently detained in the name of the “war on terror”. This centuries old right must be restored to anyone in U.S. custody.
END EXTRAORDINARY RENDITIONS: the Bush Administration has used extraordinary renditions to outsource torture, shipping people to countries notorious for their use of torture in detention and interrogation. The Administration must stop using extraordinary renditions now and uphold our obligations under U.S. and international law.
We must build a drumbeat for action so loud and so strong that not only does Congress take the unequivocal actions we seek, but the rest of the world hears our determination to restore our country as a champion of human rights. Please take action today , and ask everyone you know to do the same.

A los negociantes gringos big league no les va a quedar otro recurso que declararlo loco dentro de unos años para justificar las metidas de pata de esta prenda.
David, no había atado cabos en relación con lo que dice Paula acerca del súbito espíritu ecologista de Bush como contraataque por los votos que le puede estar robando el análisis de Al Gore en el video "Una verdad incómoda"(esta fue una jugada maestra de Al Gore, como estrategia política). Esto es un vergonzoso giro de 180°, una contradicción, luego de negarse a formar parte del Protocolo de Kyoto. Pero, aunque sea por esta razón, ojalá que empiecen pronto a realizar acciones que disminuyan la contaminación que cada segundo lanza a la atmósfera el coloso norteamericano.
